To celebrate the end of summer, Barnes and Nobles had a special sale going on between August 28th and September 3rd. They had 150 books, kids, teens and adult books, that were 50% off! I didn’t originally plan to buy anything but I happened to end up at the mall on the last day of the sale and got a couple books.
Here’s what I got!
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
This is the 3rd book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. The first book is kind of like a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but with Fairies. The second book is my favorite so far. Usually in book series and trilogy, the second book can be a bit boring but in this case, the sequel was really good! I can’t wait to start the third book. I won’t post the goodreads description for this book because it might spoil the previous two.
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
This is a holiday-themed novella for the same series. I don’t normally care for novella but I heard it had a lot of cute, fluffy moments and I am excited. I love the romance in this series so I am eager to get some more of it. Especially if the romance is the focus of this novella. It is actually a pretty sizable novella at 229 pages.
The Merciless by Danielle Vega
This book is kind of an outlier in the group, and not just because it isn’t part of that series. I don’t tend to read Horror or thriller books but I have been feeling like testing out some new genres and this seems like a very good start. The Merciless is a YA horror fantasy book series I feel like I have been seeing everywhere on Instagram lately. I won’t lie, I was originally drawn in by its hot pink cover and its old-fashioned look about it. The cover is hardbound but without the jacket that most hardcover books come with now. It also has uneven cut pages and feels very nice when I hold it. I am thinking i might read it for October as my spooky book for the month. Because it is the first book in the series, I will include the goodreads description for it.
Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned
Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.
Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.
Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .
In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?
Did you hit up Barnes and Nobles sale? What did you buy?
Have you read any of these books? I’d love to know what you thought of them!
Thanks for reading!
