Bookmas Day 2: Book Horoscopes

It is Sagittarius season which means my birthday is coming up! I have been planning a post like this for weeks and I figured today is as good a day as any! So I looked through some basic characteristic of the different Astrology signs and wanted to suggest books I thought may fit them well.

Here we go!

Capricorn (December 22nd – Jan 19th)

Capricorns are earth elements. They are known for being goal-oriented, driven to Success. They can be Loyal, funny, and have a sly-sense of humor as well as intelligent and organized.

For Capricorns, I have chosen Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

I feel like a lot of these characteristics fit Celaena in this book. Capricorns are also known to be rule followers, and while I wouldn’t say Celaena is a natural rule follower, she is forced to be in Throne of Glass.

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Aquarius (January 20th – February 18th)

Aquarius are air elements. They are known for being ambitious, independent, and impatient. They are competitive and impulsive but loyal and passionate. They have short tempers, can be frank and rude and stubborn.

For Aquarius, I have chosen Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

These descriptions 100% reminded me of Rose Hathaway who is the protagonist of the series.

Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .

Taurus (April 20th – May 20th)

Taurus are an earth element. They are known for being dependable, practical, value honesty but have a hard time respecting authority.

For Taurus, I have chosen The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin

I haven’t yet read the becoming of Noah Shaw but from what I remember from his character in the Mara Dyer series, he seemed to fit.

In the first book of the Shaw Confessions, the companion series to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer novels, old skeletons are laid bare and new promises prove deadly. This is what happens after happily ever after.
Everyone thinks seventeen-year-old Noah Shaw has the world on a string.
They’re wrong.
Mara Dyer is the only one he trusts with his secrets and his future.
He shouldn’t.
And both are scared that uncovering the truth about themselves will force them apart.
They’re right.

Gemini (May 21st – June 20th)

Gemini are an air element. Gemini are known for being curious, charismatic, motivated, and obsessed with love. Their most well-known trait, however, is being two-faced! Or having double personalities.

For Geminis, I have chosen Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

The main character of this book has to pretend to be someone she isnt and falls in love!

The only daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has always known she’d been raised for one purpose and one purpose only: to marry. Never mind her cunning, which rivals that of her twin brother, Kenshin, or her skills as an accomplished alchemist. Since Mariko was not born a boy, her fate was sealed the moment she drew her first breath.

So, at just seventeen years old, Mariko is sent to the imperial palace to meet her betrothed, a man she did not choose, for the very first time. But the journey is cut short when Mariko’s convoy is viciously attacked by the Black Clan, a dangerous group of bandits who’ve been hired to kill Mariko before she reaches the palace.

The lone survivor, Mariko narrowly escapes to the woods, where she plots her revenge. Dressed as a peasant boy, she sets out to infiltrate the Black Clan and hunt down those responsible for the target on her back. Once she’s within their ranks, though, Mariko finds for the first time she’s appreciated for her intellect and abilities. She even finds herself falling in love—a love that will force her to question everything she’s ever known about her family, her purpose, and her deepest desires.

Cancer (June 21st – July 22nd)

Cancers are a water element. They are known for being loyal to a fault, fast in relationships, standoffish and hates big social gathering. They are also known to be very intuitive, practically psychic and loyal to a fault.

For Cancers, I have chosen The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

I love this series and will never stop mentioning it but also when I read these characteristics, I immediately thought of Sookie!  A mind reader who is constantly falling into relationships, is wayyyy to loyal to people who keep getting her into predicaments and bad in large crowds of people (because of the mindreading thing).

Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Bon Temps, Louisiana. She’s quiet, doesn’t get out much, and tends to mind her own business—except when it comes to her “disability.” Sookie can read minds. And that doesn’t make her too dateable. Then along comes Bill Compton. He’s tall, dark, handsome—and Sookie can’t hear a word he’s thinking. He’s exactly the type of guy she’s been waiting for all her life…

But Bill has a disability of his own: he’s a vampire with a bad reputation. And when a string of murders hits Bon Temps—along with a gang of truly nasty bloodsuckers looking for Bill—Sookie starts to wonder if having a vampire for a boyfriend is such a bright idea.

Leo (July 23rd – August 22nd)

Leo are a fire element. They are known for being proud, ambitious, bold, intelligent and impulsive. They are natural leaders and have a high self-esteem. They are also known as bad-listeners and put themselves first.

For Leo, I have chosen The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I think these attributes can fit Jude pretty accurately. I mean, she becomes a spy to help her get power among a much more powerful and cruel species.

Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Virgo (August 23rd – September 22nd)

Virgo are an Earth Element. They are known for being sophisticated, graceful, organized and kind. They love and are inspired by beauty. They have high standards and aren’t quick to trust but are amazing friends and good at lending a hand or giving advice.

For Virgo, I have chosen The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

Camellia Beauregard is a Belle. In the opulent world of Orléans, Belles are revered, for they control Beauty, and Beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. In Orléans, the people are born gray, they are born damned, and only with the help of a Belle and her talents can they transform and be made beautiful.

But it’s not enough for Camellia to be just a Belle. She wants to be the favorite—the Belle chosen by the Queen of Orléans to live in the royal palace, to tend to the royal family and their court, to be recognized as the most talented Belle in the land. But once Camellia and her Belle sisters arrive at court, it becomes clear that being the favorite is not everything she always dreamed it would be. Behind the gilded palace walls live dark secrets, and Camellia soon learns that the very essence of her existence is a lie—that her powers are far greater, and could be more dangerous, than she ever imagined. And when the queen asks Camellia to risk her own life and help the ailing princess by using Belle powers in unintended ways, Camellia now faces an impossible decision.

With the future of Orléans and its people at stake, Camellia must decide—save herself and her sisters and the way of the Belles—or resuscitate the princess, risk her own life, and change the ways of her world forever.

Libra (September 23rd – October 22nd)

Libra are Air elements. They are known for being Diplomatic, artistic and intelligent. They are daydreamers and value harmony. They fall in love hard, seem confident but can be very insecure and often put others before themselves.

For Libra, I have chosen Wintersong by S. Jae Jones

I feel like these characteristics really remind me of the whole story.

The last night of the year. Now the days of winter begin and the Goblin King rides abroad, searching for his bride….

All her life, Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, dangerous Goblin King. They’ve enraptured her mind and spirit and inspired her musical compositions. Now eighteen and helping to run her family’s inn, Liesel can’t help but feel that her musical dreams and childhood fantasies are slipping away.

Scorpio (October 23rd – November 21st)

Scorpio are water elements. They are known for being seductive, passionate, and independent. They love debate and controversy. They can be intimidating, prickly and don’t show emotion well.

For Scorpio, I have chosen Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price–and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge.
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.
A runaway with a privileged past.
A spy known as the Wraith.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

And last but not least!

Sagittarius (November 22nd – December 21st)

Sagittarius are fire elements. We are known for being adventurous, independent, creative and strong willed. We are honest, generous and big spirited. We can be honest to the point of tactlessness but we can also be very empathetic. We are natural leaders and love history and culture.

For Sagittarius (aka the BEST sign), I have chosen Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I identify with Laslo Strange so much. Including spending all my days in the Library. I couldn’t pick any other book for my sign than this!

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of God? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

Welcome to Weep.
